Arizona State University offers short and long-term disability insurance to help protect your income if you experience a non-work-related illness or injury that prevents you from working.
Short-term disability insurance
Short-term disability provides income replacement for up to six months. You must elect this coverage within 30 days of your eligibility hire date, a qualified life event, or during open enrollment. Review the short-term disability plan comparison chart for more details about coverage and premiums.
Unum
- Pays 70% of your salary up to your benefit maximum.

- Pays 66 ⅔% of your base salary, up to $70,000.

Long-term disability insurance
LTD coverage provides income replacement if you are out of work for more than six months due to non-work-related illness or injury.
LTD coverage is automatically included with your mandatory retirement plan:
- Arizona State Retirement System.
- Optional Retirement Plan.
- Public Service Personnel Retirement System.
